Right so I’m not really sure where to start and I guess this is just a bit of a vent to see if anyone has had any similar experiences
So I graduated from a music degree in 2021 in this time I had taken on unpaid internships and work experience to help build up my cv
The first (paid) job I landed was working freelance for a pr company. £150 a week for a full 40 hour week. I asked the boss if I could get paid minimum wage (£10 per hour) and a PAYE contract (he had mentioned this before) but he refused and instead cut down my hours
After this I landed a job at a management company as an assistant (again another freelance role) and this time the boss never seems to have a structure as to what they pay me. As a freelancer I always keep records of hours I work but each month it’s an argument of how much my wage will be and I always walk away will less than I asked for.
I feel deflated. I chose to study music at a young age and now I am seriously regretting this choice. I’m looking at retraining as something else. I can’t keep living like this
