In Beau is Afraid, Beau meets Elaine on a cruise ship when they are kids. They kiss a few times before Elaine breaks into his and his mother’s room at night to say that she loves him and to wait for her before being torn away by her mother. Near the end of the film, they finally see each other again after his mother’s funeral, where he finds out that Elaine worked for her.
So did Elaine only sleep with Beau because of his large assumed inheritance? If she was working for his mother, I see no reason why she would not have tried to reconnect with him long before that chance encounter. Was she just another pawn in Mona’s game from the start? Or was the truth being distorted in Beau’s head yet again?
