How to use Reddit's API?

With the recent API changes, I was worried that I won’t be able to use it for free at all. However, after checking Reddit’s API terms, it seems that there’s a free tier.

I have never used the Reddit (or any) API before, so I don’t know how to go about it. I want to grab multiple posts from a subreddit and use the data. I don’t need many posts, a hundred or a thousand are enough, but of course, the more the better.
