Man, if Linux actually runs on Macbooks without problems I’ll probably get one as my next laptop. I’m getting tired of loud fans and poor battery life on all these x86 laptops.
Flashback to 2008 when I wanted a portable PC to play TF2 and WoW and LAN parties. I looked around and all gaming laptops were like 18lbs, had 1.5 hour battery life, and were insanely loud.
Bought a 15” MacBook Pro. Installed Windows on it. Tiny, 5lb machine that’s almost always silent. Dedicated GPU. Better processor than any PC laptop.
Only problem was, it was like 2k moneys.
I think I have your old computer
Hahaha I wish! It had accident protection and had an… unfortunate… sticky… sugar… accident a month before the protection was up.
Got me upgraded to an early 2011 MBP that I still use and love (with 16GB RAM and a SSD, of course.)
These shits last forever. Just wish I could upgrade it past High Sierra. Or figure out an easy way to back up my 160GB of photos. Love this laptop but the lil shit has USB2.
Then put Linux on it
I’d love to but I use iPhoto to manage our like 100k photos. I’ll Linux it when we finally get our m2 Mac mini!

Yeah. We can only hope that one day Framework will give us the blessing of an ARM-based laptop with foss firmware.

Even before their repairability score from iFixit sucked big time! :/

Apple does some things really well, but it’s not worth it to risk that much money on an unrepairable machine that’s known to just die randomly.
It’s attractive if you already have an Apple product lying around. Otherwise I’d just avoid that brand or get a second hand one…
M powered iPads too!?
I doubt it - the bootloader is very different on iPads and I don’t think it would let you boot a different OS
Cool
