Colonialism is one hell of a drug.
USSR wasn’t exactly a perfect state or even a state where justice prevails, but it wasn’t colonial. There were a couple of times when it behaved like a colonial power (e.g. Czechoslovakia 1968), but in general it did what NATO does to Ukraine right now.
Russian colonialism is older than the USSR.
