So I was intending t buy myself a fairphone 4 for a long time now, but it got disontinued recently. I wouldn’t buy the new fairphone 5 as it is a little bit expensive. Are there any good alternatives you guys recommend?

If your phone is still working then I would try to keep it alive a little while longer considering the new rules of EU that comes into play in June.

Gonna be interesting to see which models disappear from EU altogether and which models get the better repairability and software updates next summer:
Ecodesign requirements will apply to mobile phones and tablets put on the EU market from 20 June 2025 onwards, including:

    1. resistance to accidental drops or scratches and protection from dust and water
    2. sufficiently durable batteries which can withstand at least 800 charge and discharge cycles while retaining at least 80% of their initial capacity
    3. rules on disassembly and repair, including obligations for producers to make critical spare parts available within 5-10 working days, and for 7 years after the end of sales of the product model on the EU market
    4. availability of operating system upgrades for longer periods (at least 5 years from the date of the end of placement on the market of the last unit of a product model)
    5. non-discriminatory access for professional repairers to any software or firmware needed for the replacement

Didn’t know that was happening. I would try that, if i wasn’t trying to keep my phone alive already since the start of the year.

I live in Slovenia, so no. I saw that it was available in Austria, but they don’t offer shipping to other countries, sadly.

(edit) Nevermind, they do ship to Slovenia, thanks. (Didn’t look properly cuz they didn’t have the 128GB version in stock)

(edit edit) I am actually searching for the Android version. Still thanks.

The OS is Android but “degoogled”, so no Google espionage services or play store etc. It’s quite nice actually.

I’m pretty sure you can flash the stock FP4 ROM too though.

No problem. They seem legit enough that they got some press about carrying Fairphones a while back. Putting e/OS on there is another plus IMO. I’ve got CalyxOS on mine and love it.

Shiftphone is a good alternative but it’s also on the more pricey site.

You could get lucky and get a used one for cheap? Since the battery can be replaced and is usually the only part needing regular replacements every couple of years you should be fine?
