Space: 1999 is a British science fiction television series that first aired in 1975, set in the then-future year of 1999.

The show centers around the inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha, a scientific research colony on the Moon.

A catastrophic nuclear explosion on the Moon sends it hurtling out of Earth’s orbit and into deep space, leaving the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha to cope with isolation from Earth and the ensuing adventures as they encounter various alien civilizations and cosmic phenomena.
