I once thought the common threat of covid would be unifying

It’s a small silver lining to the US being so aggressively anti ally. If they were more passive and less in your face it wouldn’t be as unifying .

Threatening to annex Canada and saying it’s not a real country turned out to be a pretty great way to unify Canadians for example.
