    Now imagine servers on tips…

IMO some of them are just going to work for the shift meal and pinch whatever they can from the place - leftover food, toilet paper, utentils, etc.

All you can do when you’re basically a slave…

You’re not wrong, but should also remember that some of the biggest opponents of removing the tipping culture… are the servers themselves.

My brother worked for restaurant between college and high school, and he would describe the bussing staff and the servers gathering around uneaten food on a plate like vultures on the side of the road. Tips were meager and he often would have to make the decision on whether or not to speak up when he didn’t meet the threshold for not being paid up to minimum wage. It didn’t help because the restaurant corporation did ‘tip sharing’ where the back of the house automatically got a portion of the assumed tip, and it came out of the servers’ money at the end of the night.

Meanwhile, my friend currently works at a place where she gets $150+ in tips per 4-6 hour shift. If you tried to tell her that tipping is bad, she’d 1.) laugh herself to death, and 2.) think you’re an idiot.
