It’s solid. I wouldn’t say it’s as good as the original’s season 1 (at least the first two episodes), but it’s got it’s own sense of gravitas, and does a good job of trimming the marvel storyline down into something manageable for the plot. The action scenes, while not as groundbreaking as season one, are solid.
Acting wise, Cox is excellent. I’m glad they’ve sidelined the weaker members of the cast from the previous show… I was not a member of the Foggy fan club. D’Onofrio is a bit stiff out of the gate, but he’s playing an older, wiser Kingpin and it fits.
Negatives? The writing is on the clunky side in spots. There’s not enough explanation behind the first scene - it’s not really clear why the assassin is there. It’s not as dark as the original, and the dialogue feels simpler and less intricate than the original.
All in all a solid B+ in the first two episodes. It could be really good if the writing improves as the season progresses.
