I remember reading this article last year and i was very impressed then at how well it described and explained the “delusion feedback” mechanism that is causing the imperialist elites to act with such stupidity. The topic of the Georgia protests may not be as relevant as it was last year but the overall analysis still stands.
For sure, and this bit in particular is bang on
Accepting this degree of outside support and thus influence in a conflict inside your country is wrong, wherever it comes from, because it degrades your own society’s ability to come to its own answers to its own questions. When you do it, you create a rift between yourself and your fellow-citizens because you display – if you understand it or not – fundamental disrespect for them, treating them as lesser members of the community because they are less aligned with the foreigners you feel comfortable aligning with.
This is also a good argument in favor of China’s non-interventionist policy.
Indeed, a lot of people are upset that China doesn’t meddle in politics of other countries, but looking at how that’s been working out for the west makes the wisdom of Chinese policy clear.
I’ve been really enjoying Amar’s writing and his new show Cold War 2.0 with Kevork Almassian (amazing name with a beard that fits it perfectly)
