Hello R/Sauna Community. Long time reader, first time posting. Hoping for some insight into our new sauna. Here are the details: We are running a 6KW Harvia Kip wall mounted heater. We “seasoned” the heater and the rocks by heating and cooling several times before first use. We have been using the sauna (and heater) for around a month (heather probably has 25-30 hours of usage to date).
We purchased a 6ftx5ft sauna last month from an Amish dealer. They sell you the sauna, you install the heater. The inside of the sauna is made of fresh cedar wood. During the first few “seasonings” there was a very offensive cedar odor coming out of the wood. This seems to have dissipated with continuous use. We contacted the Amish and they said to coat the interior with Sauna Oil. This is the product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IBYMDWO?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
That helped a great deal with the cedar aroma and made it easier to breathe in the sauna itself.
The issue now is the following: About 10 minutes into a sauna session, my throat feels numb. It goes away about 10-15 minutes after leaving the sauna. At this point, we have been using the sauna and dealing with the numbness. It would be great to figure out what is causing this and how to fix it. My guess is that the wood is giving off something that is causing the numbness. How do we fix this? Has anyone else had this problem? Happy to provide photos etc… Thanks in advance for your assistance.
