My true shame as a LOTR fan is that I’ve read the books five times but I just never read the appendix.

well yes, it leads nicely into that, which leads nicely into unifnished tales, which leads nicely into HOME (all 12 books)… after that it gets tricky

I have honestly always wondered why that was such a huge story line in the movies!
it’s a very significant event in the history of middle earth, but it’s always at the edges of the story. and you have to have read the silmarillion to really get why it’s so significant, and of course it’s some bloodline stuff, because it’s tolkien.

yes. but it can be a tough read at first. lots of new names and it’s not a novel, it’s a condensed historical narrative
Andy Serkis on audio book makes it easy.

In the book Infinite Jest, the author straight up continues the story in the appendix. So if you ignore all of the notations then you’re going to be confused af.
