An “economist” on reddit with a room temperature IQ? No way.
• “uh my tap water doesn’t taste good”
• “SO YOU’RE SAYING IT’S BETTER TO HAVE NO WATER AT ALL??? DEBUNKED AHAH”
Also I just discovered that Reddit economists have a massive hate boner for Jason Hickel across a variety of subreddits.
His book ‘the divide’ is really good.
Jackson Hickel?
No. Jason Hickle is an economist and anthropologist.
I thought it was “Jackson Hinkle”.
That’s a moronic youtuber
Well, that makes sense why they don’t hate the YouTuber; they probably think he’s intelligent
“this global south nonsense”.
Does he not think those countries exist? Or does he disagree with the term, which goes back to at least the 60s as far as I am aware, he makes it sound like some kind of new communist propaganda.
as a patriotic Kiwi I have no truck with this “Global South” nonsense
No, he’s just racist and wants more settler colonies lol
yeah he’s not a kiwi, he’s a kolonizer
kkkiwi
pākehā ‘kiwi’ identity is so goddamn cringe
The gardener does not want to acknowledge that beneath his land of flowers and butterflies lies the skeletons of the original inhabitants.
That is just impressively stupid, holy shit
Almost to level that I have a hard time believing this isn’t a troll
Dude doesn’t understand the difference between geopolitical and purely geographic terms. New Zealand isn’t in the global south you bafoon!
If exploitation causes poverty, shouldn’t unemployed be rich? Checkmate tankies
proceeds to do a liberal and define the word rich out of existence to the point where even the unemployed are “rich”
Same level of lack of knowledge you see “historians” share on askhistorians
As a proud settler I only believe in crackernomics
I genuinely can’t follow this person’s logic at all
It’s because this person is a moron.
They have no understanding of imperialism. The paper they are criticising is about unequal exchange in trade between global north and south countries. They think how anti-imperialists claim imperialism works is something like this: global south country harvests its natural resources to create wealth. This wealth then gets appropriated by the global north through unfair trade dealings.
So they posit that if global south countries just didn’t trade with the global north, they could just keep their wealth and prosper. So sanctioned countries would actually get wealthier compared to non-sanctioned countries. Since this is obviously not true, (their strawman of) imperialism has been debunked.
oh, that makes more “sense”
Wait did they actually respond to a 1 year comment? AND the op responded back? That is just wild to me.
Yes, people necro threads now especially after the 6-month archival rule has been dropped on many subs.
Rejecting the concept of imperialism immediately discredits whatever you say especially in the topic of economics.
Words cannot describe how stupid this person is
