LOL. essentially people started crashing out over the UN vote like i said. people pushed back. even ones who were saying u could criticize china for other things were getting called “parasocial cheerleaders for china” for disagree that china not vetoing proves that china is actually also a main opponent in the genocide of palestine and is an enemy of the global south and blah blah blah. then u got this mamdani stuff and people who were crashing out over china are then defending mamdani being chummy with trump with some of the most spectacular mental gymnastics, etc etc etc. it’s just been nonstop fighting and dunking even beyond what i usually see since the vote

to better sum up the amount of absolute shit on the TL, i will upload something written by someone dismayed by the behavior in “decolonial marxism” twitter, which i think is an accurate microcosm of the meltdown going on in the rest of “left” twitter:

We are a joke and it is unacceptable

i didnt personally witness these interactions but another account i follow said they were giving up trying to be friendly with anyone on twitter and that roderic day had the right idea of being extremely abrasive on twitter, which if u are familiar with roderic day i hope u can imagine the kind of shit that twitter user was going thru for him to decide he should start trying to imitate roderic day’s behavior on twitter lmao. i do feel pretty bad about it though because ive always really liked the (nice) twitter user and he said people were using things he had revealed in private about his mental health to berate him and just… wow.

People will really just pin all their hopes on China and then crash out the moment China looks out for its own interests and doesn’t take on the entire rest of the world on principle.

Like, it would be nice if they had vetoed. Would that have made a difference in Palestine? Almost definitely not in the long term. Would that have hurt China? Probably yes. Would they be more likely to be better on foreign policy if there was an international communist movement? Definitely yes. China isn’t going to save you. China is trying to save China, because they’re extremely afraid of ending up like the USSR did.

Every Arab country was pushing this deal. Fatah was pushing this deal. It was always going to go through. Did anyone expect China - notorious for “minding their own business” to an extreme degree, even when it’s morally wrong - to go against every single Arab country and the internationally recognized Palestinian government who even Hamas still treat as somewhat legitimate to avoid fracturing the Palestinian state?

yea . some of them are just annoying maoists/trots/leftkkkomms pretending to be outraged, but like i said i had people i was following i thought were generally level headed crashing out over it. at one point i saw a thread arguing about the “chinese century” memes…? like just truly juvenile and rancid stuff everywhere

              1. Do people think that these memes unironically mean everything will be fixed because of the “chinese century”?
              2. Do people genuinely now think that it would be worse to live under Chinese hegemony than Amerikkkan hegemony, even if those were the two options? How is “won’t save you” even close to as bad as “will actively murder you and then laugh and murder your children for 10 generations”?

I am still waiting for the mythical “Chinese imperialism” to manifest in any kind of interventionism or enforcement action. People really need to have some perspective.

if im being generous i think they are allowing their despair at the situation in gaza to cloud their judgement. but still very frustrating to see from people claiming to be “serious” marxists

                  1. Everyone, including the Palestinian resistance groups (though they want to reform the PLO), recognizes the PLO as the sole representatives of Palestinian statehood. China is unwilling to internationally oppose the consensus of the PLO under Fatah and all the Arab countries.
                  2. America enables this genocide to happen in the first place and enthusiastically does everything it can to promote and assist the murder of the Palestinian people.

These are apparently, according to some, equivalent in some way because they expected China to solve all the world’s problems? It would be great if China had vetoed, but what was the basis/justification? It can’t just be “in our opinion as the state of China, this is bad”. They would have had to have been asked by a party involved for it to have made sense to veto the resolution, they’re not the world police. Did Hamas actually ask China to veto it? Even if they had, could it have been done without shattering the tenuous idea of a unified Palestinian state? After all, since even Hamas consider the PLO to be (albeit corrupted) the representative of the Palestinian state, how could they (a faction of that state) ask a country to openly oppose the PLO in the UN?

maybe. there is argument about what was said pre-vote. they were urging for the resolution to not be passed, but russia did put forth a different resolution that got shot down. they were urging for the american resolution not to pass. you could read this as them trying to pressure PA and the arab compradors to go with russia’s plan. or you could read it as them calling for a veto of the american plan if it came down to that.
