Want to wade into the snowy surf of the abyss? Have a sneer percolating in your system but not enough time/energy to make a whole post about it? Go forth and be mid.
Welcome to the Stubsack, your first port of call for learning fresh Awful youāll near-instantly regret.
Any awful.systems sub may be subsneered in this subthread, techtakes or no.
If your sneer seems higher quality than you thought, feel free to cutānāpaste it into its own post ā thereās no quota for posting and the bar really isnāt that high.
The post Xitter web has spawned so many āesotericā right wing freaks, but thereās no appropriate sneer-space for them. Iām talking redscare-ish, reality challenged āculture criticsā who write about everything but understand nothing. Iām talking about reply-guys who make the same 6 tweets about the same 3 subjects. Theyāre inescapable at this point, yet I donāt see them mocked (as much as they should be)
Like, there was one dude a while back who insisted that women couldnāt be surgeons because they didnāt believe in the moon or in stars? I think each and every one of these guys is uniquely fucked up and if I canāt escape them, I would love to sneer at them.
(Credit and/or blame to David Gerard for starting this. A lot of people didnāt survive January, but at least we did. This also ended up going up on my accountās cake day, too, so thatās cool.)

Honest question, since Iām not on linkedin (and kinda looking for a new job): does it really help anyone find a job? It has been my impression from the outside that itās mostly empty drivel.
I think there might have been a golden age of recruitment on linked in, and it might have passed. A friend of mine has been a CTO at a couple of small places, and recruited a whole bunch of their employees via linkedin but now finds that thereās just too much genai bullshit now and it is becoming uneconomical to find real candidates there. The problem isnāt linkedin-specific, but I think it has been hit pretty had.
In ~9 months of searching, Iāve gotten to two second-round interviews out of dozens of applications to LinkedIn listings. Take that as you will.
Anecdata here, Iāve been unemployed 2 times in the last 3 years and both times I mostly used LinkedIn to look for leads. Had some ok comms with recruiters too .
Depends on where you are and what kind of jobs youāre looking for but for computer janitoring like me it worked ok
Thanks everyone for the replies <3 Guess I should make an account there after all⦠bleeeh :/
I regard it simply as a place to park my resume, and periodically get emails about open positions I might want to apply for. I donāt think I have ever read a post on the social side of it, and I certainly havenāt posted there.
