If you don’t want spoilers than you should stay off social media. It’s your responsibility to avoid the results if you’re going to wait for the post produced coverage.
You can’t subscribe to a disc golf community and then be mad that someone posts the results of the world championship.
I agree with this to some degree, but at the very least, IMO it would be better to put the result inside the post, and behind a spoiler warning. There’s really no way to avoid it if it’s in the title of the post.
It costs literally no extra effort to not put the name of the winner in the title. I don’t get why people react so harshly when being asked to show that absolute minimum of consideration for other people. Apparently it’s much more reasonable to ask people to either temporarily unsub from the community or avoid Lemmy entirely every time a tournament is going on.
What’s the purpose in this post other than to just ruin the excitement for those who have been following along albeit delayed? Seriously, these types of spoilers are what keeps many other possible contributors away from this community. Do you want a thriving disc golf community or not? How hard is it to just NOT POST about a result in 24 hours? Give us a day…a DAY to catch up. Many of us would love to stay in here and contribute and post, but when something we have been following along all weekend gets spoiled, we just leave. You mostly don’t hear about it, because people just leave. This post had nothing to add other than to spoil the results. A way of letting us know that they knew before the rest of us. It shows their lack of empathy for others and really insulting. I’m fucking OFF social media, other that Lemmy…but i guess that’s not a sacred place either. Already unsubbed and won’t be returning to this community.

That sounds like a fair compromise. Though like @TheCelticPirate@lemmy.world mentioned we need to codify the spoiler rules for this sub
