Just a love letter to my local library. ❤️

My library has been holding all sorts of events for kids through the summer. It’s one of my favorite things. My kid and I have gotten so much enjoyment out of the library. I’ve never felt the need to buy new books or movies when I could borrow them first. My kid gets free lunch after weekly storytime. It’s the best.

I love seeing other kids have fun there too. Having a third place and being part of a local community has helped so much in curbing my past shopping problem. I didn’t need material things to fill the void. What I really needed was human connection and more time for friends.

I love my library as well! Libraries are one of the last public places that you can be in and simply be in without having to buy something. For me, the library is a place of knowledge, learning, and refuge. 📗

Libraries are one of the only places left where we can go and not be expected to spend any money. They’re amazing, and should be used to the fullest and defended when threatened.

Some places also offer free or reduced admission with a library card, like museums and botanical gardens. Worth looking into!

Oh, we’re doing love letters to libraries? I got one.

I don’t much go to libraries anymore. But as a kid, when life was unfairly challenging both at home and school, the local library were where I always felt safe and sheltered. And the librarians the most helpful and patient people. And sometimes random people who are willing to talk. Or leave me alone if I needed. I don’t think I would have survived without the library. I doubt I’m the only one.

I love that my library has digital ebooks with a lending period, that way it doesn’t take up physical space, the author still gets some money, and if I don’t like the book I haven’t spent any money.

And there’s so many club’s that you don’t have to spend any money on.

I love my library too. I mostly get books online now, but I do love to go in and check out books.

What I love too have been the very helpful free services! Fax-to-email and printing services are two that we’ve needed many times.

Like most people I stopped using libraries in the early 2000s with the advent of the internet. And up until recently I still used to buy or download books I wanted to read. But I’ve rediscovered local libraries and they’re awesome. Since almost nobody uses them they have increased lending limits and most books are always available. You can basically enter the library with a box and fill it with books to take home and read. They now recognize me at the front desk and it’s awesome.
