Last week we had a great thread about metal without growls. In reading suggestions, and conjuring up some of my own, I re-realized a bunch of stuff.

I wanna see your top 3 metal deep cuts.

What do I mean by deep cut? I mean the formative shit. The stuff you found and loved along the way but lost track of, that when you revisit you go “fuck what happened to these guys?” The ones that helped guide you but fell off the face of the earth (or just your radar).

    My own?

    1. Kiuas - Heart Of The Serpent

The solo which gets intro’d around 3:20 is dope. Kiuas never got the love they deserved.

    1. Falkenbach - aduatuza

flutes and shit. Simple, head banger. Chanty. These guys are what all folk metal should aspire to be. Check out their stuff, they fucking rule. Their most recent (2013 lol) album is heavy.

    1. Kalmah - Heroes To Us.

This 2003 finnish gem ruled when I was in high school, and it rules now. Vocals leave a bit to be desired, but I think they were probably following in Alexi Laihos vocals (RIP), in which case… improvement? 😂

    Regardless, this song rips hard.

    Honorable mention:

Curriculum Mortis - Walls Of Ice

This song… if you can find it, send it my way. (holy f I found it) It was a band formed of the original Amon Amarth drummer started. They had a demo. It was dope, very Amon Amarth but less viking/kitsch. Just melodeth despair.

    Edit: HoLY FUCK.
