I am trying to run a network cable for a AP but there is a new angled roof built on a old flat ashalt roof. I may end up drilling though the roof but I am curious if there are any other options to run a physical cable

Edit: Asphalt doesn’t really block WiFi so I just put the AP in the attic

Are you drilling through the new roof, old roof, or both? The old roof you can probably go at without too much concern since the new roof is the primary now. Any penetrating through the new roof should include adding an appropriate boot that gets lapped into the shingles or detailed appropriately. Going through both will require a combination of the two approaches.

If there are other routing/mounting options like through a wall you’ll typically want to run it in conduit since most wire isn’t UV stable.

I’m trying to avoid drilling though the old roof. It is thick and made of blacktop. It would take a while to drill though and would pose a safety harazard due to low ventilation and heat
