Okay. So I’m fairly new to this whole Diabetes thing and I was wondering if anyone could answer this question…
Why do I always feel tired?
For context. I think I’ve got some aggravating factors. I worked overnights for 15 years, so my body clock is…well, f*cked. I’ve also got two young kids, one of which is still yet to sleep through the night and as yet, sleeps in Mums bed, meaning I’ve been sleeping on the sofa, which likely doesn’t help with how well I sleep.
All this taken into consideration; is it normal to feel this constantly ready for a nap?
Yeah, like the other commenter said, fatigue is a common symptom of sustained hyperglycemia. I remember being exhausted all the fucking time right before I was diagnosed. And I still get there rarely if I make poor eating decisions.
Another thing to look out for is hypothyroidism. It’s unfortunately more common in diabetics, and can also contribute to fatigue.
According to Laura Hieronymus, M.D., vice president of health care programs at the American Diabetes Association, “Fatigue is a symptom of hyperglycemia (high blood glucose). When blood glucose levels are too high, the body is not processing glucose as energy; therefore, tiredness or fatigue may occur.”
Did some google searching on this yesterday bcz i found out a friend has pre-diabetes. Basically when you have diabetes you body isn’t processing glucose properly like it’d supposed too. Unfortunately glucose is a really important simple sugar the body uses as an energy source. So, it’s not that surprising that tiredness all the time is a problem.
I’m sure it doesn’t help that you have a busy life either. Hope your sleep situation gets better!
