I recently added a Hue bridge with 2 bulbs that are in lamps. I did set them up in HomeKit to act as 1 accessory. Obviously the lamps need to be “on” in order to work through the Home app/Siri. But I am wondering if there’s a way through Automations to turn on both bulbs through a real dumb switch? Obviously one bulb would need power on and just be off in software.

    What you’re looking for is a Shelly relay. I have some wired into switches for various things. For your situation you would put the relay in “detached” mode so the physical switch is not actually switching power but the relay can use the switching action to trigger the automation to the bulbs. The bulbs are always supplied power but the switch can control their state.

    my house is set up where the dumb wall switches are only there to cycle power, in case my Hue bulbs decide to misbehave. so the dumb switches stay on constantly, and scenes and automations rule the world of lighting in my house. my partner knows not to touch the switches.

    could you train your household members not to touch the wall switches? I’m pretty sure most people who have Hue lights don’t physically power them off and on with a wall switch. but I’d like to hear the scenarios and methods if someone is.
