If I set “show read posts” in Lemmy UI and “hide read posts in Avelon”, then only recent unread posts are shown in feed and when trying to scroll down, a message appears with “failed to load more posts. Retry?”.
If I unset show read posts in Lemmy UI and keep hide read posts in Avelon, then all is fine and even x months old posts are loaded.
Isn’t it possible to have the toggle in the app turn hide read posts on/off directly in lemmy? From what I’ve seen most apps can’t do it and just have an in-app setting, so what’s the reason?
I’m not sure if I understand you. But if you uncheck show read posts in lemmy, then by default, all read posts will be hidden everywhere.
Means if you check your profile, you will not be able to see your posts. Or example in avelon, even if you check to show read posts in communities, it will still be overwritten by lemmy and you will not be able to see old posts.
There’s no way to do “proper” hide read posts through the API, as some other devs have talked about before. The issue OP is having is most likely because there are too many hidden posts in his feed, and I’ve capped the number of pages the app searches through to prevent heavy loads on the servers. For the majority of use cases you wont notice, but the solution is definitely not optimal. If the API adds this functionality I’ll definitely incorporate it, but for now there will have to be some edge cases as I dont want Avelon to be a driver of server issues.
I understand. Thank you for your explanation.
Thanks for clearing it up!
