Hey guys and gals!

I have a very back-tire heavy setup. Basically I have my tent (without poles, my GF carries those) strapped to the handlebars and everything else in the panniers on the back rack and on the rack (it’s a Vaude Karakorum Pack, to be precise). Do I have to keep anything in mind to reduce wear and tear on my back wheel or tube? I know the weight distribution isn’t optimal but it’s just so convenient to have only one real bag instead of a myriad of smaller ones. Also cheaper. Still, curious about the drawbacks and how to counter them. Thank you!

Ideally, weight should be distributed equally or towards the center (aka triangle). But if you’ve got a choice between back-heavy and front-heavy, go for back-heavy. It doesn’t affect steering, makes the ride more comfortable and is generally safer.

Just keep up with maintenance and you’ll be fine.
