I love shrimp, for example, and it’s low calorie. But, I cook shrimp with butter. Curious to know how many calories I’m adding when I do this.

    The way I think about this is that you need to ask whether you do this consistently. The app I use, IIRC says that it is accurate with 30% margin for error. Whether you consistently cook shrimp or other things in butter and count it, or don’t count it, or count part of it, is less important than being consistent.

    At least with the app I use, if you screw up your inputs, the app will correct against the user’s error and make the overall calorie count lower to accomodate.
