Feeling worthless at work, Homer volunteers to be a school crossing guard.
Just watched it and I really loved it. Juuuuust teetered on the edge between hravy-handed topical references and silly Springfield antics.
Excellent Kent Brockman gag with the news special on crossing guards. The editing in that segment was particularly wonderful, could be easily expanded into a Documentary NOW! special. Always love to see Moe’s as public space and not just the bar. Always great for visual gags, with Lenny and Carl outside being hilarious.
Best joke was the whole sequence with meltdown. Burns rolling up his sleeves and just working with everyone to solve things, and the thumping score…flashes of Chernobyl in the best way! Plus the way that Homer realizes his uselessness was perfect.
Great to see a strong continuation of what I felt was a much revitalized season 34. Easily the funniest showing from all of animation domination, though I do think Family Guy just edged it out for overall quality.
