Garak.
Garak.
Ultimately it’s his instance, his liability if shit goes sideways, so his call to make.
I don’t think it’s the end of democratic anything, and it seems to be more because another instance took action and defederated than the call of a single person, because context matters.
The statement referenced said there was no responsive administration at rammy as reported by a rammy user and attempts to reach admins by others were not successful.
That’s very different from what you’re trying to claim.
Yeah, you’re not winning points by becoming aggressive with the people who you want on your side.
This isn’t Reddit, and that’s kind of the point. I do want higher standards here and the way to make your point is with words, not slurs.
Bring receipts. Link posts if that’s your thing, screenshots if you want.
I took a screenshot of what and who I found objectionable, which I am willing to share, however I won’t post it publicly because it’s (to me) hate speech.
I was browsing through /all and had the misfortune of finding a transphobic post from the site. Blocked user and community but if that’s an indication of what they’re putting out, hard pass on the rest of it.
Just finished up and I liked the spy thriller premise but it does rank lowest in my D+ series ranking. The entire thing feels like a setup, but for… (fill in the blank with not a waste of time at some point in the future please)?
Ritson’s response is painfully USian, so it tracked for me, but it’s like globally, aliens aren’t a new concept so… Why?
So daft that you can’t somehow differentiate between good aliens and bad aliens and given that the globe is already dealing with the blip fallout and repatriation efforts a million seems like such a miniscule number, so, who cares?
G’iah as super-super-super powered individual seems too much to me, even as I was accepting that Gravik had cracked the ability to get some powers, it still wasn’t an end all be all issue. Now you’ve introduced some potential meta-threat that’s just tacked on the end of one of the weaker D+ series and for what? Like what is going to be done with this character or is she just going to be shuffled off and sidelined?
I don’t like the way that the series just did away with established characters (Hill especially, Talos because wholesome AF, liked him) so casually, though. Like the deaths felt they lacked any real weight to them. They felt like just things.
I do like Varra. So, so much I like her. I doubt she’ll ever show up again but for what it’s worth, I like her.
I feel for the Skull plight. I just wish that they’d gotten better than this. Surely there is more to it than Gravik vs. Talos/Fury.
Maybe whatever it’s setting up will make it something I want to watch again in the future, but for now, sadly, one watch was enough.
As someone in that weird space of end GenX/too early to be Millennial, I support you.
That would take effort. Does anyone from GenX really wanna do that?

Lain was one of those anime that when I was introducing it to someone there was a “no questions, only experience” policy in place.
It’s a thing. There’s nothing less attractive than having to play parent to an adult who can’t pull their own weight in managing a household.
Can’t recognize that a full trash can needs to go out without being told? Can’t realize dishwashers that are full need to be run without reminding? Can’t find where clothes need to go when they’re clean?
If that workload is falling on one person most of the time, over time it can become a source of resentment.
When both people have full time jobs, it’s like coming home to a second job.
Genuine apologies, as that’s not my intent.
We’ve had what has seemed (to me) an influx of just really bad faith and downright trolling type stuff going down recently and it’s perhaps colored my take on things more than I realized, and it probably has for others as well.
We really did just come here for the chill vibe, read the thing, and were like “yeah, this works for me.”
Other things may get added to that block list in the future, yes. I pointed you to the Agora because you may not, as a new user, be aware of it, as the Dude set it up as the place where these kinds of decisions will most likely be made in the future and where community discussions tend to be focused.
However, as a Canadian based instance, they have different laws on what does and doesn’t put them at risk, so there are times where those calls may be his and his to make alone (which is why there are two where there was only one on the list of defederated).
You’re asking a person with a day job who is doing a cool thing for the fediverse community and set up a community in sh.itjustworks (Agora) to handle these possible future blocks to give you a granular breakdown of the blocking of one instance in a justification they don’t really owe you.
The community itself is trying to be chill and just vibe. If what we’re doing fits what you’re looking for, welcome.
We know that in the anthropological record examples exist of people being cared for exist that should not have otherwise survived. So it’s fair to say that at least some of us do have the desire to care for others within us.
Community support efforts exist. There are always people who will do for others without the expectation of reward. I’ve been the beneficiary of it and the giver of it when I can.
We also have plenty of contrary examples as well. It’s easy to look at, say, the growing income inequality as an easy example of at best indifference to the suffering of others and news feeds focus on the harm we as humans do to each other.
You can make an argument for both things being true.
We would not have survived as a species if we did not learn to cooperate and there can be those who will put themselves above all others at the expense of everyone else.
Given that your account showed up immediately during the defederation of sh.itjustworks discussion and the removal of a certain account and community, I think the bad faith argument is valid.
This is the way.
If you didn’t want me to take all three of the unknown statues, don’t give me my own tiny apartment in a necklace.
And it’s not my fault the tiefling found out one was lickable. That’s on him.
Given that one of the rules for the server is no bigotry, I would assume that extends to the ones we federate with from what I read.
“Shit just works”, but that’s just because I came here when others were overwhelmed, so…
Another vote for this series. Cherryh’s books are some of my favorites!
