  • I love Melee! I used to enter locals but the TOs in my region have only gotten less and less responsible regarding Covid safety over the years and I can’t afford to take that kind of risk. Sure miss it though, hopefully one day it’ll be accessible to me again. At least there’s Slippi netplay for when I feel like playing, and hopefully Brawlback sometime soon too. inshallah

I main Peach but lately I’ve been playing a lot of Luigi and Yoshi as well. Haven’t played enough P+ to really have a main there but I think Snake and Wario are my most played.

  • They’ve convinced themselves that anyone who disagrees with them is a secret tankie alt hellbent on sowing disunity across the fediverse. It’s really convenient since they can avoid ever having to admit they were in the wrong about something. In reality I would be shocked if even a tenth of the regular posters here made alts to post on those instances. Only the most masochistic users and the most determined lib converters could tolerate reading the awful things these people post every day.

  • workplace discrimination, venting

Walked out of my job today. For the last couple years at least we’ve had a side bathroom in the building that was used as the employee bathroom, and last week management decided that isn’t allowed any more with no warning and no explanation. I’m one of several trans employees who are there and we are all very upset about this, I made it explicitly clear that I don’t feel safe using a public bathroom and I know I’m not the only one. We’ve been making some efforts to continue using it anyways but after some back and forth, yesterday the key to the bathroom was either well hidden or taken out of the building completely, and then last night they literally drilled screws into the door frame to make sure we can’t use it.

That was the final straw, so this morning at a team meeting in front of everyone I read out some relevant statistics about anti-trans violence and talked about my own experiences with anti-trans violence (because I didn’t feel like they were taking my safety concerns seriously), told them again that I cannot safely work if I cannot safely use the bathroom, and then told them either they allow access to the employee bathroom again or I will not work until they do. They gave me some weasel-y answer and refused to respond when we called them out on things they said not being true or helpful, and so I left.

I wish I could have organized it as a full strike but we aren’t unionized and without going into too much detail the chances of us successfully unionizing is very low. At this point I might try anyways though cause there’s nothing left for me to lose here, I doubt I can keep my job if they wouldn’t even hear me out. I know several people are probably going to follow me and quit anyways because a lot of people are very upset both for me and themselves. Some of my coworkers were crying while talking to me after the fact. It just is so frustrating, I know that I do a good job and they know it too, I don’t want to quit, but what can I do. I’m just going to start looking for new work and stress about it until I can find something.

  • That’s what I mean, I remember both of the Octopath Travelers having really intense lighting effects that I thought were pretty unpleasant to look at. But for some reason it doesn’t bother me in DQ3 HD as much even though it’s in the same style. I looked it up and Live A Live got the same treatment and looks fine as well so maybe they’ve been adjusting the style recently. sans-shrug

DQ Monsters is definitely one I want to try at some point too. I never got into any of the monster collecting games besides Pokemon and it feels like I missed out on a lot of good games.

  • I started Dragon Quest 1 on the NES the other day, it’s the first Dragon Quest I’ve played. I picked it because I was curious about it since it’s a game that had such a massive impact on console RPGs, and also because redditors said it was a bad choice to start with it and I will always do the opposite of what redditor gamers say. It’s pretty cool, doesn’t feel too crusty for being such an old game. Pretty basic but that’s what I was expecting and not bad. I was surprised the game has a built in turbo, why isn’t every game doing that?? Fucked up that modern RPGs are making me mash A through text boxes when this game from 1986 doesn’t.

I’m also playing around in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 a little bit because they butchered it in the 3 + 4 remake and it annoyed me enough to go download the original and set it up lol. I’m not gonna do another full playthrough but it’s nice to scratch the itch a little.

  • 2nd Edgeworth game is definitely worth a play IMO, same with The Great Ace Attorney 1 and 2. All 3 are pretty great and are at least as good as the original trilogy. I also thought Dual Destinies was pretty meh and felt the same way about Spirit of Justice. Both just kinda feel unfocused and I found the shift to 3D really killed a lot of the charm in regards to the art and animation. TGAA does much better visually I think, it feels more like they were willing to take steps away from the iconic style the DS Games had in a way that Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice isn’t willing to do, and looks much better for it. Similarly, having a fresh setting and cast of characters lets the writing in TGAA shine, whereas DD/SoJ feels bogged down by neither being willing to move away from the Phoenix Wright cast, nor willing to commit to a story that actually builds off of the previous games in a meaningful way. I ended up just not caring by the end and honestly, it kinda felt like Capcom didn’t care about the overall plot either. DD/SoJ aren’t terrible games by any means, but I don’t feel like they hold up to the rest of the series. I personally think you can skip SoJ, at least until you are out of other AA games to play and are hungry for more, and if you are willing to overlook its flaws.

  • I got an Anbernic RG28XX as a gift for myself recently after someone here mentioned them and I’ve fallen in love with it, so I’ve just been putting random shit on it for quick pick up and play sessions. Mostly I’ve been trying the UFO 50 games on it since it’s basically the perfect collection for a pocket handheld IMO. Some of the games in the collection run poorly (no Grimstone spamton-pain) but most feel great. I want to start a longer game too but I’m not sure what I want to commit to yet. Right now I’m leaning towards Madou Monogatari (the Mega Drive version) but I’m also thinking maybe Dragon Quest or Moon? IDK yet.
