Asterix & Obelix is a thing, yeah. Mostly as comics with a pop-history setting that a lot of European children have read, including me.
The 60s film adaptations and the 1975 original animated film are actually worth watching imo, the rest is mid. Just like the comic itself since main writer René Goscinny died in the early 80s.
Unfortunately, volume 1 is from 1958 and also depicts black people, so you can guess how they’re made to look. The artstyle is unchanged since then.
I liked the band until I discovered the drummer is or used to be a libertarian. That’s like the least cool thing you can be.
Pentiment was neat.
The game actually is Eastern European. The devs are from Eastern Slovakia.
I don’t know, but it has Italy written all over it.
Oh hey, my family did this back in early 2010s Italy. The local gold and silver dealership proudly displayed a copy of L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics near the counter, that was fun.
Ah, them. I’ve seen some of their videos already. There’s also Retcon 404 who does old Mecha reviews, I just remembered.
Oh yeah Hazel, forgot about them but they’re definitely a low output, high quality channel. The latter sounds interesting, I’ll check some of these videos out.
I got offered a two week unpaid trial period. Since I otherwise don’t have anything else recent for the CV, I’ll take it.
It’s 2 PM smh. It’s job interview day. No idea how it’ll go.
As good (writing): Morrowind, Fallout New Vegas, Shin Megami Tensei II, Deus Ex
As communist: none.
Sakaki clearly wasn’t interested, and that’s okay. But Kaorin deserved better than what ended up happening to her in the later part of the show.
Just watched E1. Damn, can’t believe the Manga is from 2014, this encapsulates the melancholy of 2024 in a way I don’t remember seeing from media back then - including looming threats of the Apocalypse in ways that hit way closer now than they did then.
“The government is hiding alien technology from us and preventing our lives to becoming better by it!”
Maybe.
“German Defence Expert”
That’s a liberal party politician, and known for being very pro-war.
Angel Densetsu is hilarious - a 90s comedy delinquent manga by the same mangaka who made Claymore (also a good read)
Devilman is the grandpa of all supernatural/demon horror stuff in japanese pop culture and it’s actually really good. By far Go Nagai’s greatest work.
Kaiji is great - almost as long as One Piece but it’s a gambling drama that at least partially had a bone to pick with capitalism.
The World God Only Knows by Wakaki Tamiki is very good. He’s a very good storyteller that can take weird concepts and make them interesting.
F91 is really solid, shame it was never made into the 50 episode show it was meant to be.
Why does such a population become so pro-fascist in the first place, I wonder?
Nationalism. “Vote German no matter who”. Same as the 1991 independence referendums in the USSR. It seems to hook you harder than meth.
lmao most of the german “left” are greens who want to nuke Russia, burn coal and create greater Israel, like let’s not front
I mean, if you include liberals, then that’s basically every western country.
And yes, there’s a 90s Star Trek themed synthpop band and it’s surprisingly good.
