There are mutual defense treaties between America and Morroco, plus Isreal likes morroco. By recognizing western sahara as Morrocan territory, France is preparing to side with Moroccan claims on parts of Algeria. This is a cold war 2.0 thing, they want Algeria destroyed the same way they wanted Libya destroyed.
If France attempted to attack Algeria, who would they attempt to set up as puppet rulers? There will be consequences for Western Sahara being thrown under the bus.
