It doesn’t point to malintent. It means they make use of Google Play Services, but which is bad for privacy. The solution is to flash your device with a ROM that doesn’t have Play Services, if that’s possible, or to disable all the permissions for Play Services. But then you’ll receive notifications with a delay, which is probably okay for an app like Amethyst. But even Session needs to use Play Services to deliver notifications in realtime.
My first impression of it wasn’t so good. The only android app that’s distributed on f-droid is Amethyst but that doesn’t have group support, nor did any of the other apps I tried. Some of the apps are only distributed on the Play Store, which I’m avoiding. It was only when I tried satellite.earth that I discovered Nostr supports groups to begin with. But then that still didn’t work on Android. Also, that interface hijacks your attention even more than Lemmy. It feels like you’re browsing 9gag when the memes take the centre place.
I would still advice that a link to exploding heads on Satellite is placed in the sticky, though. At least that gives an experience similar to forums.
We don’t need to go more modern, we need to go retro! 💪
I didn’t mean mental health in a clinical sense, by the way, but in a more general sense. Both struggles are normal. Best of luck with things.
Well, he’d be bringing business there as well, so it’s also a gesture toward Canada. Kind of like what happens in the free market but at the level of nation states. Peterson is rich enough not to be too severely inconvenienced by this.
Short-term solutions should partially be stoicism at the individual level, accompanied by an international support group. If we form stronger bonds and aim to take our world back, it’ll be bearable to suffer losses in the here and now, because friendship with other people with integrity remind us that it was correct not to stoop.
It can be seen as a test. Basically, the Christian model of taking up one’s cross and welcoming persecution is the right one. I’m just talking about Christian values, by the way, and not about a literal understanding of the gospel. God can be taken to represent higher ideals in general. We should believe in those and be willing to make sacrifices for them.
The problem is that you’re stooping to their level if you do that. The noble thing to do is to stay above it.
Are you interested in running Rabbit Hole with me? It isn’t very active right now, so this community is free to inhabit it and you can maintain the same culture. The users who visit it now are from Saidit, which has a pretty similar culture anyway. Perhaps it’d be a nice addition to Nostr. This way, the openness of a forum is maintained (rather than the microblogging format that revolves around popularity / networks), but you don’t have to be guests with a single subforum. We can discuss how to run it and you can request / make forums. If people migrate, at the outset it would mostly be people from here who make use of it, and I want to get people from related communities involved as well.
Hello Alice. I see two related but distinct things going on here: low mental health and lack of productivity. The former is a matter of building and maintaining good habits. It helps to spend time offline, for example by going on a stroll every morning. As for productivity, you are more likely to follow through on your plans if you write down your goals with pen and paper. There are systems that help you with this. I recommend the Bullet Journal method. You can also practice your ability to concentrate by reading a book or meditating. I recommend you do all of these three things (stroll, planning, reading) at the start of your day.
It’s very human to long for social interaction, and ideally you have it every day, but social media is designed to keep you addicted by making your brain release dopamine upon each interaction. Here’s a video about it. Maybe keep it to just a few chatroom where you check in with people. I’m thinking about starting an accountability group. Are you interested?
I’m considering switching to either Lemmy or Kbin. The latter is also nice for integrating microblogging and boosts. One problem however is that votes can easily be manipulated. I feel like at one point it would have to default to a chronological sorting of comments, to mitigate manipulation.
There isn’t a dedicated app, but it can be accessed from a web browser. How is that experience for you?
Come join Rabbit Hole. It’s a PhpBB forum where I bring people from various conspiracy-related forums together. There’s no federation, but you can guest post even from Tor, so the barrier to participation is as low as it gets.
Since many are expressing disappointment in this site going down, can I take this opportunity to promote my forum, Rabbit Hole? It’s a simple phpBB forum that supports free speech, allows guest posting from Tor, and aggregates the content on the landing page. I’m afraid many won’t make the transition to Nostr and the community will fall apart. I made RH partially as a Saidit alternative, since that site has many problems. However, it hasn’t taken off. Saidit still works so people seem to be sticking to it in spite of the flaws. If this community migrates there, there will be enough activity to make it more appealing for other users to join and I can more easily advertise it on a couple of related communities. My goal is to combine the conspiracy / freedom niche with imageboard culture and an imageboard-like design (but using phpBB for the extra features).
I look like God.
