Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto Indigenous@hexbear.net•Indigenous activist Leonard Peltier granted clemency by President BidenEnglish10·8 months agoI am very happy he’s not in prison, but also upset he did not recieve the full pardon, more happy than upset, but classic
to means test doing something cool, so it’s only something mostly cool.
Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto news@hexbear.net•In huh pardon news, peltier - to home prisonEnglish7·8 months agoKind of amazing they are still clinging to the idea that he did that shit with quite literally no evidence, I’m glad he did something at least, I heard Deb Haaland* spoke to him directly about this throughout his term, so if she couldn’t convince him no one could, I also heard Leonard has diabetes and a few other health problems and wasn’t getting proper medical treatment so I hope he gets that at least, even though he is still not free in home confinement.
Natalie Bara, the president of the FBI Agents Association, which advocates for active and retired agents, said it is “outraged” by Biden’s reprieve for Peltier.
“This last-second, disgraceful act by then-President Biden, which does not change Peltier’s guilt but does release him from prison, is cowardly and lacks accountability,” Bara said in a statement. “It is a cruel betrayal to the families and colleagues of these fallen Agents and is a slap in the face of law enforcement.”
Get fucked Natalie and by association all other feds.
Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto videos@hexbear.net•Biden pardons his siblings and their spouses on his way out of the White HouseEnglish7·8 months agoI don’t want to be too much of a pedant, but it is different, it’s not likely any of these people did anything besides Hunter. Unless it comes out these people actually did anything, comparing Hunter to Kushner is a fair comparison, but preemptively pardoning your family because you think they are gonna get persecuted because they are related to you is pretty unprecedented. I don’t really fault sleepy for this, what’s the alternative letting Trump groundlessly put your family in courts and make a media spectacle out of it.

Hopefully the behaviour associated with the problematic mod that was behind the migration has migrated with that mod. But cool to see users not being okay with going to an objectively worse instance.

It’s a national security problem in the sense that any closed source app that connects to the internet on a VIP is a national security problem, it just happens to be owned by a country that Amerikkka wants to beef with, there is just as much danger in a closed source US owned app like Facebook getting hacked by a foreign actor and leaking sensitive information, the op-sec of most governments and a lot of businesses are generally horrendous, anyone doing anything important enough to be worth targeting should have nothing that isn’t strictly needed on their phones, you think they would take it more seriously, but they do not.

Also making your username the place you live with your area code while wearing a ski mask, sunglasses, gloves and doing voice modulation might be the greatest opsec blunder of all time.
Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto History@hexbear.net•Gamal Abdel Nasser - New General Megathread for the 15th-17th of January 2025English2·8 months agoYeah you’re not gonna get any recognition or compensation if you don’t have a state, that has been made abundantly clear post WW2 for numerous conflicts, I volunteer to give the Roma and Sinti
though. They don’t really deserve to have the one they do now to begin with. It took a similar amount of time or even longer for them to recognize the genocide they carried out in Namibia in the colonial era.
Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto History@hexbear.net•Gamal Abdel Nasser - New General Megathread for the 15th-17th of January 2025English6·8 months agoJohann Wilhelm “Rukeli” Trollmann (27 December 1907 – April 1944) was a German Sinti boxer.[2]
Trollmann became famous in the late 1920s.[3] On 9 June 1933, he fought for the German light-heavyweight title and although he clearly led by points over his opponent Adolf Witt, the fight was judged “no result”.[3] The audience rebelled, and the Nazi officials were forced to acknowledge Trollmann as the victor. However, six days later he was stripped of the title. A new fight was scheduled for 21 July, with Gustav Eder as Trollmann’s opponent. Trollmann was threatened that he had to change his “dancing” style or lose his licence. Trollmann arrived the day of the match with his hair dyed blonde and his face whitened with flour, the caricature of an Aryan. He took the blows of his opponent as he was asked for five rounds before he collapsed.[4]
From wikipedia, some people are just unimaginably cool.
Learned about him in this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8NXfFQ3r_g I posted earlier in the videos community.

Piment [they/them, comrade/them]@hexbear.netto politics@hexbear.net•All it took was to force Netanyahu to work on the Sabbath.English7·8 months agoliterally if this is to be believed from Jeremy Scahill
But what happened was that Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East is not someone like an Antony Blinken or a Henry Kissinger. Instead, it’s kind of, you know, like a scene from The Godfather, where Tom Hagan gets sent as the consigliere to sort of do the bidding of the don. He sends another billionaire real estate tycoon, Steve Witkoff, to the region, and Witkoff then is in the room with CIA Director Bill Burns, with Brett McGurk, the current envoy, with all of these mediators. And we understand from Israeli media coverage that last Friday Witkoff is in Doha. He calls Netanyahu’s people and says, “I’m coming tomorrow to Israel, and I expect Netanyahu to be there.” And they say, “Oh, well, no, it’s Shabbat. He’s not going to be able to meet with you.” And Witkoff, who himself is Jewish, was like, “I don’t care what day it is.” He arrives there and, by all accounts, sort of said, “This deal is going to happen before President-elect Trump takes office.”
