Games@lemmy.world•Video game PEGI age-ratings are changing in Europe from June. Four new categories added to tackle elements of addictive design, unmonitored online communication and loot boxesEnglish
2·18 days agoBy that logic everything is addictive and people indulging in it should be considered addicts. And I mean everything, for example: playing sports, singing, painting minis, fantasizing about muscular men, and even cleaning your house.
But that would be kind of meaningless, and would add nothing to the discussion. Luckily the discussion is not about that, it is around games with elements specifically designed to be much more addictive.
Good example would be Bloons TD 6. Is the game itself addictive? I wouldn’t say so, it’s just and ordinary (though well made) game. Again, you can still get addicted to just the play loop of it, but that’s not the point. Are the daily rewards and daily challenges in this game addictive? Yes, their purpose is literally to get you to think you have something do in that game and log in every day to do them. Think about how much less addictive that game would be if those mechanics would be removed. Would people still log in every day to play? Some people yes (third time now, everything can be an addiction), but a lot of people would play much less, and possibly in much more focused sessions (as in not half an hour everyday, but two hours every weekend).

Add one more to the list:
I wear men’s pants only because my phone no longer fits in any pocket of my old pants (assuming they even have one).

15·2 months ago- No luck catching them hundreds of beavers, then?
- It’s just a couple of them, actually.
Drinking juice is for little babies. Real adults drink blood and flesh of the inhumanely tortured tree children (preferably apples).

8·2 months agoLooked up for original using tineye and google images and the result is that the only thing changed in here is the “her” and “me” text reversal. Original still has red lace on the right (the “me”) side.
However, I did see some variations that instead of lace there were uhhh… let’s just say suspiciously shaped knitted warmers.
Looks like I’ve been doing my exercises wrong this whole time…

Privacy@programming.dev•Mozilla Firefox gets new anti-fingerprinting defensesEnglish
5·5 months agoYou absolutely can be tracked by screen resolution, especially when using a monitor with unusual resolution (few years ago I was still using 1440x900 so I understand this well). I just don’t understand how this specific change would help prevent that.

3·5 months agoVery good to see these changes, but could somebody explain this one to me? I don’t understand how that helps with fingerprinting protection…
The available screen resolution is the screen height minus 48 pixels.
Under-fed, as in they ate less than they should’ve.

I know exactly what cursed picture you’re talking about, but unfortunately I can’t find it.
