That’s actually a really good point. Interesting games tend to make me read books. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t at least a social democrat, but reading definitely pushed me over the line to the actual left.

I’m not sure about the angry part (I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be angry about in this context), but I’m a lifelong gamer, and I’m here. The circles I inhabit tend to be fairly progressive, usually pretty liberal, but occasionally actually leftist. I don’t usually feel unsafe hoisting the red flag in my groups, so perhaps I am part of a pipeline to the left.
I don’t do twitch or youtubers, so I haven’t really noticed much of a pipeline to the right. But I do occasionally see nonsense about random games being “woke” for insane reasons, so I am vaguely aware of their existence. It’s just not a crowd I associate with.
But why do all that when you can eliminate melanin instead?
I’m not Ukranian, but this deal sounds pretty frickin nice. I would like my country to accept these terms without a war with Russia.
It was a dark day. And it’s only gotten worse.
It is fictional, but based on real people and events. I would compare it something like Peaky Blinders, which I thought was a pretty decent representation of Victorian England and the gangs of the time. I thought Minning Town was a pretty good representation of what the CPC is all about, and an example of what a currently existing communist country can be like.
Glad to help! It’s honestly a little heartbreaking when watching it, knowing what happens just a few years later, but it’s still a great watch.
Another one I might suggest is “Minning Town”. It’s a Chinese TV Drama about their poverty alleviation efforts for the Hui people in Ningxia. It’s a legitimately great show, and covers a lot of aspects of communist society. It focuses on internal workings and ideals of the communist party, and a slice of life for the Hui minority. It’s also available on YouTube, although the subtitles can be a little sketchy.
I know you said you aren’t interested in historical content, but I would like to recommend “The Human Face of Russia”, which was a documentary produced by the BBC in 1984. They travel throughout the Soviet Union and speak to people about their daily lives in the context of a communist society. It’s easily found on YouTube.
Indigenous peoples are formally involved in the governance of unceded territories across Canada, including in densely populated areas.
Oh Canada. Your home and not native land. I do find it amazing that they implicitly admitted that we are not in control of our own land though, and actually came out and said that it would be very bad if we did.
I believe that suicide is no longer an option for me as I want to fulfill my purpose in this life and see the capitalist system finally fall apart.
Good. We need living comrades. The light at the end of the tunnel is the day that you move out. Keep the faith, keep working towards that, and one day you will never be under their power again.
Link to the full document is at the bottom of this summary. It’s nothing too terribly surprising, but it’s accurate and a good read.
The very same. Missiles were the new wonder weapon, and guns were seen as being obsolete, until the migs started chewing them up.
I don’t think that the dishonesty and hypocrisy is actually lost on them. The difference is that the US is always the “Good Guy”, and whatever enemy of the moment is the “Bad Guy”. When the bad guy does it, it’s because they only do bad things. When the good guy does it, it’s because they had no choice. It also makes it easy to just make up whatever you want about the bad guy, such as this garbage, even when they’re actually doing what they claim the bad guy is doing.
Still heavily involved with stardew valley 1.6. I’m not playing any multiplayer games, but I have been dabbling with a bit of suzerain. I’ve pissed off pretty much everyone who isn’t a radical leftist, and I suspect that I’m about to be ousted in a military coup soon. It’s fun.
Probably start writing something about how the game romanticises capitalism, then pop off to the pub or play another day and never finish writing it.
I recognise that the US was on the rise, and Spain was in decline. I had difficulty finding the actual military sizes, but from what sources I could find, their troop sizes were more or less equal on paper. How that translates to the real world, I’m really not sure of. But it seems clear that Spain had a lot of internal troubles and bad luck with disease.
But my understanding is also that it wasn’t until after world war 1 that the US began building their MIC. At the time of the Spanish American war, the US was still a bit of a backwater. When they entered the great war a few years later, they were not an effective fighting force and had to borrow a lot of French equipment in order to be useful.
It’s not an area of history that I am intimately familiar with, and I’m genuinely not trying to claim that they were equals. I’m just highlighting it as a possibility. And it was still well over a century ago, so it doesn’t disagree the point at all.
According to the US’ own statistics, 5.1% of people have “very low food security”, and 12.8% were left hungry at some time in 2022.
And about those pigeons? Yeah…
You could probably make a case for the Spanish-American war. But Spain never really had its heart set on winning, and did not wage full scale war.
Yeah. It’s basically free DLC. It adds a lot of new mechanics and items, and some new in-game events. It’s changed the game quite a bit.
Oh, yes, then I would be very angry.
