They know what they’re doing is wrong. They are doing it anyway. They want you to believe they are “just following orders” or “just following the money” but they know what they’re doing. They are not your neighbor, your family, your coworker. Maybe they were once, but they’ve sold their soul and they are not that anymore.

These people are irredeemable. They are the enemy of every good person on the planet, and the sooner everyone accepts that, the sooner we can do what is necessary to stop them. Fascism comes in all shapes and sizes and colors, it wears all sorts of flags and clothes, but it’s still fascism down to the roots, it will kill or convert everything it touches into a tool for its own use, and it will use those tools to destroy everything good and kind in the world. Nevermind the woke mind-virus, this is the fascist mind-virus and it’s absolutely real, we’ve seen it before, and we’ve seen what it can do.

We must fight it again. They want us to feel helpless and hopeless, but we’re not. We won last time, and we will win again. But be prepared to fight hard, because we’ll need to.

As a senior developer, my most productive days are genuinely when I remove a lot of code. This might seem like negative productivity to a naive beancounter, but in fact this is my peak contribution to the software and the organization. Simplifying, optimizing, identifying what code is no longer needed, removing technical debt, improving maintainability, this is what requires most of my experience and skill and contextual knowledge to do safely and correctly. AI has no ability to do this in any meaningful way, and code bases filled with mostly AI generated code are bound to become an unmaintainable nightmare (which I will eventually be paid handsomely to fix, I suspect)

Assuming it’s compatible with the hardware at all, it should. You would have to install it on the Proxmox host itself, but Proxmox is basically just Fancy-Debian-for-Virtual-Machine-Hosting and it has Debian packages so that shouldn’t be a problem. Login to the Proxmox itself and install it there.

If AI would make people stupider even without capitalism, imperialism, whatever, then no those are not the only reasons AI is terrible. Making people stupider is terrible. We have brains for a reason. The things we do with those brains are what gives life value. Depending on a technology to think for us is deeply unwise, and a person doing so will become deeply unwell.

That’s definitely a stretch goal. But at least if we can start by stopping them from killing something innocuous like games it shows that we still maybe have some power over them.

The good news is they already fired all the good people, so we can hope those people find their way into creating a wonderful spiritual sequel under a different name, as is tradition.

They have different data centers for storage (AI doesn’t need much), but you’re right, it’s all unbelievably specialized to the point of being basically useless for any purpose that it wasn’t specifically designed for. We really have been spoiled with how general purpose our computing infrastructure has been up until now. That’s simply not how things are scaling up anymore.

I get accused of being a bot all the time now because I still enjoy writing long-form posts and, y’know, contributing what I can to the state of human knowledge, or what remains of it anyway. I can’t blame people for being defensive about it. It’s the AIs themselves I’m offended by, they’re the ones doing wrong. Piefed(.ca at least) is great. It doesn’t really matter much to me where the community is hosted but it should be wherever you feel comfortable hosting it and I agree the Lemmy devs are very toxic.

I wish you were right. I don’t mind governments and political parties who aren’t fascist. Democratic socialists and responsible environmentalists can AI-pump their ideology all they like and it’s not going to do much harm to civilization. But if they are doing it at all, they’re not doing it anywhere near the level that fascists and kleptocrats are. The latter benefit from radical change, and they are using AI to achieve that.
