I don’t know the details of the user’s difficulties, but from a generic viewpoint, 2FA is not mandatory, so you can ignore it if you want. No need to disable it, unless I’ve missed a point here.

btw, for those who want to enable it, you got plenty of apps :

• pass-otp, plugin of password-store, on linux (probably bsd also, I’ve not checked) : their github repo is interesting if you want to understand the idea
• aegis for android phones

512 m ram dunno, but I had an old 10 yo+ dual core / 4 gb ram laptop on arch working well, except for gaming. Just replaced it with ghostbsd, also fluid.
