X86 configs were painful and fun. Knowing a wrong setting might destroy your monitor was the right amount of adrenaline.
Sorry for the shitty experience and for my comment.

Companies all raised prices for often no reason at all. Weve reached full on late stage capitalism. The cost of production is fully detached from the sales price.
Advertising and the stock market. Two evil controlling systems that systematically abuse humans daily. Fired, stock market. Some random dude got some absurd promotion to tank the company and ruin people’s lives - stock market. Forced to watch advertising every fucking where you go… Ohh sorry someone needs to do that to make money so fuck you.

Plus the days where I can eat like Homer Simpson are over.
demunted@lemmy.mlto Canada@lemmy.ca•Even if Pierre Poilievre loses the election, he will have jolted Canada rightward14·3 days agoPolitics now exists to feed a base of social influencers with bullshit to magnify over the social media megaphone. The amount of disinformation that is regurgitated daily is unmanageable. So what do logical thinkers do… Disconnect. It’s not worth correcting everyone we come in contact with. But alas we’re also losing the war because there more it is regurgitated the more it is taken as fact.
The other thing is there is a circlejerk of funding keeping the machine running and the hateful right wingers spend money to feel the machine. Left/centererists tend to be suspicious and want detailed analytics and analysis before trusting.
Plus… A good conspiracy can be fun and empowering, like good gossip it feels good to be on the inside. Deep analysis is boring and rarely rewarding.
We’re fucked.

demunted@lemmy.mlto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft rolls Windows Recall out to the public nearly a year after announcing itEnglish42·3 days agoThis is good. There are probably some edge cases for this. I work in IT for some companies using industrial automation. Being able to roll back and watch what people do when errors or problems occur is a good feature. Similarly on high value servers I would like this as well.
Being able to turn it on is better than having to apply policies to disable. I don’t see this as a big problem anymore.
Did you get that thing I sent ya?
