You seem to be under the impression that your opinion of a random meme and joke response comment on the internet is something we should care about. We don’t know each other, this isn’t Facebook, there’s no reason to fake being nice on a site like this. I’ll probably never see you again, your judgement of a random comment means very little to me. My original comment wasn’t meant as any more than a bullshit joke comment, but since you want to make it more…

I never compared babies to abusers. I compared Stockholm Syndrome to the evolutionary mental and hormonal responses parents have for their progeny. They’re both unconscious mental responses brought on by an external stimulus. An inconvenient comparison of course, but simple.

Back to the actual topic of the post… I don’t think anyone’s baby is cute, including yours, they’re all ugly bloated sacks of skin. And no the baby’s disproportionate features don’t actually look like either parent at that age. You want it to be true and your mind is giving you what you want.

  • I never said they weren’t capable. I’m just saying that this prosecutor seems to be choosing to not prosecute something seemingly obvious, which just makes them look incompetent. If they want to appear that way to the public, that’s their choice.

Nothing prevents them from saying that they aren’t going to prosecute it as a hate crime due to exculpatory evidence, instead they seem to be intentionally leaving it in a grey area. Especially since this apparently happened a month ago according to the article. Plenty of time to figure out something so core to the issue. It just makes them look complicit in allowing hate crimes when the public evidence is so glaringly obvious for it.

  • Suburbs don’t prosecute, the county DA does. And this county voted for Biden in 2020.

You’re right, and Presidential elections don’t do a good job of showing anything about local matters. Gotta look at the local elections. Since you brought it up…

In the 2022 general election the County Clerk, Criminal District Attorney, Constable, District Clerk, and County Judge elected were all Republican. In fact, the only race not won by a Republican was one of 2 open County Commissioner seats, which a Dem barely won with 51.5% of the vote.

Notice that Criminal District Attorney, Phil Sorrells ®, was just elected in 2022. Prior to that, he was a Judge for Tarrant County Criminal Court Number 10 for 25 years. I’d be willing to bet if someone went back through his criminal sentencing over those 25 years it would show certain, shall we say, biases in those sentences, they almost always do. Sometimes that quack does come from a duck after all.

  • Or… that’s the result of hormonal changes and the brain creating an excuse for the cognitive dissonance that results. It’s an evolutionary trait to further propagation of the species, nothing more. Your mind tricking you into liking something because you created it. The human mind creates fantasies all the damned time typo cope with situations.

In a different context. Your abuser isn’t that bad, they provide for you, give you a place to stay, and clearly care for you, just in their own way. Clearly they actually love you and you need to return those feelings to show your appreciation. The physical abuse is only a small punishment when you misbehave, you deserved it.

  • Can’t imagine what sort of exculpatory evidence there could be for someone asking where someone is from, then trying to drown their child, and beating them with their hijab. There is a pretty damned cut and dry racial motive there. Unless the white woman was secretly Muslim somehow it seems pretty straightforward.

Or… the simplest explanation is that it’s a smaller suburb of Dallas-Ft Worth where the largest ethnic group by far is white, in a district that went 62.2% Republican in the 2022 election, and the government officials don’t want to publicly denounce racism like that because that’s what the citizens in that area expect of their government.

  • To be fair, it was a toddler.

/s in case that wasn’t obvious.

Also, “possible hate crime”? It clearly was. Getting really tired of these bullshit headlines that don’t actually say what happened. The “alleged” for the crime since they haven’t been convicted is already in the headline, that’s fine, I get he legal distinction there, but then say what’s actually alleged and don’t try to hide the reality of what’s alleged. This is clearly a hate crime, there’s no question of that. It’s not an alleged possible hate crime, it’s just an alleged hate crime.

According to a press release from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the mother appeared to be visibly Muslim, as she was wearing a hijab and modest swimwear to the pool at the time of the incident.

Police said Wolf also asked the mother if two of the children in the pool were hers before allegedly attempting to grab one of them, a 6-year-old boy, who was able to get away.

Wolf also allegedly snatched the mother’s headscarf off while she tried to save her daughter and beat her with it, according to CAIR.

  • Sorry that I expect first responders to actually learn new things as technology moves forwards, especially when there are millions of vehicles on the road.

Tesla is not the only manufacturer where this would be a thing. Any vehicle with electronic actuated handles/doors would be affected. With a quick search I found the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Range Rover Velar all look likely to have this same issue if locked outside with a dead 12V battery since they all use electronically-activated doors or handles to open the vehicle from outside.

Just like firefighters now learn how to fight lithium battery vehicle fires, and where the high voltage disconnects are for safety. Unlike those disconnects, which would be in different places for every vehicle model, the fact that a simple 12V jump like a normal car would let you open basically any vehicle with electronic doors or handles seems like a pretty small thing to learn.

  • No other car needs a jump for occupants to exit the vehicle

Neither does a Tesla, there are manual overrides inside the vehicle if you are “stuck” inside with a dead 12V system for any reason.

I was referring specifically to the fact that the car can be jumped like any other vehicle if necessary, and the topic at hand is one of those situations. Any vehicle with a flush handle that uses an electronic release will have this issue if the 12V system dies. Because these systems all rely on an electronic mechanism to open the door. Interior manual overrides will bypass but from the outside, there often isn’t a bypass, you would need to jump the 12V system to unlock a door.

Other than the Tesla models, there’s the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Range Rover Velar that I found with a 2 minute search. There’s probably more models, probably even before Tesla if someone cared to look more.

  • There are two totally different battery systems in electric vehicles.

The car drives using the high voltage system. The normal car functions like infotainment, door locks, windows, power ports, etc. all operate on a standard 12V system just like any ICE vehicle. The high voltage system recharges the 12V system just like an alternator in an ICE vehicle.

There are mechanical overrides inside the vehicle to force unlock and open the door if you’re locked inside with no power for some reason.

The situation listed in the article can only happen if the driver ignored the warning that their 12V battery needed to be replaced, and let it die while also leaving their child in the vehicle unattended. They also apparently didn’t attempt to jump the 12V battery like you would in any other situation.

I don’t blame the driver for anything more than being a fucking idiot leaving their child in the car unattended. Yes they should know basic safety things about their vehicle, but I can excuse that in a stressful situation like this.

The firefighters on the other hand, should know that these vehicles all still have a regular 12V system they can access to jump a dead battery to open doors that aren’t unlocking. This shows a distinct lack of education about electric vehicles, something that all fire departments should have by now with tens of millions of them on the road.

Teslas aren’t the first cars that need a working battery to operate the door locks, they’re probably just the most common now as they sell millions of them every quarter.

  • Oh I know, and I know the ACA was essentially the Republican plan from the beginning.

I also know there is absolutely jack shit any of us can do to make the Supreme Court not throw shit out just because they want to and find a flimsy justification for it. Congress would have to do their job and hold them accountable, and that’s not going to happen.

The only way people will actually demand something real is if this happens and millions lose access to their healthcare, with their new options increasing in price dramatically just like it used to be. If they can even get insured.

The ACA was originally implemented slowly and as such the average person never saw a big difference before and after. The “big” issues were from shit plans that didn’t do anything for people anyway but they paid for it thinking they had coverage. We’re now post-COVID and there are millions of Americans with long term health issues stemming from that period. I’m sure insurance companies would put that right at the top of their list to disqualify coverage. Denying coverage would not be gradual and will be noticed.

  • So then if you want to move that goalpost again at least move it to a comparison that makes sense. SpaceX and Blue Origin are both Billionaire funded launch providers. Even though SpaceX now operates from their launch sales.

Meanwhile, Blue Origin has a complete lack of real world launch vehicles to send viable payloads. The best they’ve shown is a handful of tourism rides on New Shepard. And massive delays on the new engines for New Glenn and other rockets, which are finally starting to be delivered to customers massively delayed, but still no New Glenn rocket anywhere near being launched.
