Woah, with strawberries and cream? In my mind that’s a pound cake or shortcake job, I’ll have to try corn bread.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Culture no longer exists in our reality today because most of the actors responsible for it have long been deprived of their livelihood.
3·2 days ago^ This was reported for being a troll. I think the reporter is correct. Even the original post is a bit of a troll for the average Lemmy person.
If you choose to reply to this comment, careful not to feed the trolls.
I have all the gear I’ll need for a long time because I’m not trying to do new things, just enjoying climbing when I get to go.
The local bouldering gym allows you to buy entry passes in bulk, so I don’t have a monthly fee.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A photo of myself bruised up summarizes this year for me, what would yours be?
6·8 days agoThanks for posting in shower thoughts.
Rule 2 is that the entire thought must be in the title. Do you think you could edit your post?
Ideally shower thoughts are applicable to lots of people. See the side bar for examples. I guess the idea that the prior year has been bruising, but we made it through, could be generally applicable.

vatlark@lemmy.worldtoHacker News@lemmy.bestiver.se•The Copenhagen Trap: How the West made passivity the only safe strategyEnglish
2·9 days agoThe article seems to capture that to some degree:
This is not a human universal. Continental Civil Law systems (France, Germany) criminalize failure to rescue—you can face imprisonment for not helping when you could do so without risk. Islamic law’s Fard Kifaya creates communal duty: if no one rescues the drowning, the entire community is considered sinful. These traditions recognize that the bystander is not merely an observer but a citizen with affirmative duties.
Interesting article. I would be interested in the counter arguments.

Science@mander.xyz•Tattoo Ink Moves Through the Body, Killing Immune Cells and Weakening Vaccine Response
1051·11 days agoIn the study the longest they waited after tattooing the mouse before giving the vaccine was 2 months.
They made some connections with people that had tattoos for a much longer time. But I can’t tell how meaningful those connections are.
This is well outside of my field.
Edit:
Also, it sounds like the tattooed mice were less responsive to the covid vaccine but more responsive to the Influenza vaccine.

The tech is just not very good. A bunch of it was just proven to be fraudulent.
Cutting emissions and moving to solar and wind is viable. This policy is not based in reality.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What's if instead of a dead internet we end up with a dark forest internet
2·12 days agoThis is something I’m very curious about. It seems like a really necessary utility in the future.
A way for people to validate other people but not totally blow away all privacy. Large group chats, email providers, etc already try to solve it. It would be cool to see some powerful open source tooling. Like what Signal is to E2E encrypted chats.

The EU population is 450 million people with an average density of 106 people/km2. The US is 350 million at 33 people/km2.
There are probably better metrics than straight density.
