Netflix double-dipping: All the revenue from both the adverts and the lowest level plan.
I hear there are some nice communities dedicated to piracy somewhere on the fediverse.
I think a lot of people stopped pirating because of Netflix, when they first started and they had a lot of good content and reasonable prices.
Now that it’s just full of bland Netflix Originals and they’re trying to squeeze every last penny from people already battling a cost of living crisis, it might be time to dust off the old jolly roger again.

It’s a classic move - start a convenient free or cheap product to kill the competition and then jack up the monetisation.
I remember the enormous amount of Torrenting there was of Lost and the like, so they’d be eager to sign up to streaming services too. I think the problem now is that it’s even easier to illegally stream films and TV, so they aren’t even doing that well on the convenience front.
I’m currently paying Prime and Hayu because of the shows I enjoy. Even though I have a Plex box and can easily acquire the content and watch it there, I’m totally happy to pay reasonable streaming costs of a couple of services.
But Netflix is just taking the piss at this point. Unlike Prime, I can’t watch Netflix both at home and away without paying even more, and the UK selection of shows is quite frankly abysmal. I signed up for one month as staying with family, but found nothing anyone wanted to watch, so cancelled.
We’re watching something on Prime almost every evening.
Yes, I watch a lot on Disney+ so, while I sometimes um and ah about it, what they have justifies the cost. I can also share with a friend and watch it where I like, so it’s convenient too.

I stayed with a friend while moving house and they had Netflix, so I watched everything I wanted to see (and some stuff I didn’t) then I’d largely completed it. If they are going to jack the price up, they need to justify it with more quality content and stop cancelling shows - too many times I’d enjoy a series and then they wouldn’t renew for a second season. It had done it’s work hooking in new users and could then be binned.
