Hi all,

I recently discovered Pixelfed supports stories (both picture and video from what I understood) and was wondering how it works regarding federation (wasn’t quite able to find info about this apart that federation is supported).

Can I view stories posted on Pixelfed from the mastodon app for example ?

What do you think about stories in general ? It has taken over most social media apps and would be nice to have in the fediverse.

I’ve seen promos for the stories feature in Pixelfed but I still haven’t seen one in the app yet 🤷‍♂️

Same here. And I’ve seen it referenced that it is in the app but was never able to see the function available

Mastodon generally has a problem with

    • everything with more than four pictures in one post (because Mastodon has to convert pictures in a post to file attachments, and it can only attach four files to one post)

    • actually, everything with more than one picture in one post (because the order of the pictures may be reversed, depending on where the post comes from)

    • everything which relies on pictures embedded in the text in specific places (because those pictures converted to file attachments are attached below the post)

Technically, you may be able to view them. But chances are big that Mastodon will mangle them server-side, independently from which app you use on your phone.

It has taken over most social media apps

A lot of the people using the “fediverse” are here because of the things that most social media shovels at it’s users. I don’t think I would use that as an example of why it should be available to us.

Right. I suppose the things people don’t like in traditional social media are different and we’re probably here for different reasons.

IMO ephemeral posts are interesting also because everything may not be worth archiving (and hence increase the overall impact of social media storage), I get it that we can have divergent views on this.
