Hello everyone, both old and new!
It has become very quickly clear to me that the ani.social instance is a better fit for this community. Comparing the engagement alone over at .ml after 8 months and here after only 3 days is hardly something to dispute. And that isn’t even counting the support from mods of “adjacent” communities. Special thanks to @wjs018@ani.social!
So I decided, with both a heavy heart and anticipatory elation, to go along with the migration and make it permanent. I closed down the .ml community and going forward I’ll post my weekly updates only here.
There is also good news (more good news?)! Honestly, it has been a struggle to keep it up over the last few months, and actually seeing some engagement here right off the bat did wonders for my (renewed) motivation. So yesterday I channeled my inner motivational demon lord and set up 3 things for the community:
- a Light Novel Wiki (reachable at https://lnwiki.bitkata.de/)
- a Discord Server (Invite Link: https://discord.gg/VJ7yrfq2ex)
- a clean Minecraft Server (add “yurgenschmidt.bitkata.de” to your server list)
Necessary (for currently 17 users)? No, but let’s start the new home for the community with a bang ;)
I hope the community will thrive here and we can enrich our reading hobby with additional discussions.
idk about discord as I don’t use it that often, but I will come and make a dirt house in minecraft.
Dirt houses are the best houses :)
I have to look into how to create those large pixel statues. Would be nice to have a huge Myne greeting everyone from the spawn point. But I’m not a bg Minecraft player myself, so that will be a journey.
Sorry, I was AFK in front of your house and a creeper blew up part of your entrance. I’ll try to fix it :(
lol
Creepers be creeping
Big fan of the migration, didn’t want to bring it up but lemmy.ml certainly isn’t the right place for anything Anime/Manga/LN related. The moderation climate was a bit too similar to reddit over there when it comes to this niche.
The eroge/VN (visual novel) community
which is just comprised of me for nowwelcomes our LN brethren! We’re not just smutty dating sims, I swear:)I myself have enjoyed a few LNs including Oregairu, Overlord, and MT, so glad to see y’all here~
Why thank you. As an occasional VN enjoyer I’ll subscribe and give my impression once I play/read (what’s the correct term here?) one again. I still have The House in Fata Morgana on my Ally installed but just didn’T get around to put more than a few minutes into it. Same goes for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. But at least I got 2 hours or so in.
I also added the community to the sidebar, maybe it helps a bit with the “just compromised of you" part.
I’ve heard of that VN before on r/visualnovels but haven’t read it, haha. Seems pretty highly-rated though.
“What’s the correct term” - it depends on who you ask,
the community’s figuring that out themselvesTo be honest, the VN community here is rather dead. (It also wasn’t really alive over at Burggit where I migrated over from)
But maybe that’ll change with time and some memes
and some missteps by Reddit, so we’ll see. All the best for your fledging community over here!
Do whatever you need to to stay motivated :)
This is great, I appreciate what you’re doing. Tbh I haven’t read many LNs but this is the right instance to be on for anime related communities. For whatever reason this is the post that got me to create my ani.social account finally, been lurking here a while - thanks for that!
Thanks! And in return for creating an account here you just gave me an idea for something to put on the wiki: A beginners guide for first time LN readers. I gotta think how to structure it best but I think something that lists genres and then the best first time reader novels for that genre would work.
If anyone here has any suggestions for what LN would be best beginner for what genre I’ll be happy to include it. Otherwise the guide would be heavily tainted by my own preferences.
Yeah, the beginners guide/recommendation lists are the main thing I plan on crowdsourcing from the manga/anime communities. I just don’t think any one person has enough of a perspective to create a good overview of an entire medium like that.
