The following sales figures refer to the German retailer “Mindfactory” and are regularly evaluated by Twitter user TechEpiphany. Mindfactory is a large retailer, but of course this only gives some insight into the German DIY market. However, the market is usually dominated by OEM manufacturers and system integrators, with DIY making up the much smaller part. Furthermore, Germany is considered an AMD country with clearly better AMD market shares than elsewhere. Likewise, in the graphics card sector, Mindfactory’s AMD sales figures are considered uncharacteristically high. This results from the fact that Mindfactory regularly ranks first in price comparisons with its AMD SKU offers. For nVidia SKUs, on the other hand, these first places in price comparisons are distributed among several retailers.

Meanwhile, the sales figures of AM5 processors are above Intel’s LGA1700 processors, despite Intel not having a strong old generation. Of course, the DIY sales figures are still dominated by AM4 processors. Many retrofitters will certainly buy here, which means they already have the AM4 mainboard and only switch from an earlier AM4 processor to a current AM4 processor. This can be seen as a success of AMD’s strategy of long support periods, which are now also used by CPU buyers.

As can also be seen in the CPU market, there was a dip in sales at the beginning of the summer, which might have been overcome now. The still high average prices of ~630 Euros are remarkable; in the second quarter of 2020, the average GPU price at Mindfactory was just 395 Euros. Nevertheless, there was at least some price movement, since the average GPU price was still ~740 Euros at the beginning of the year. AMD’s market share at Mindfactory has been quite high lately, primarily driven by RDNA2 SKUs (because there are still too few RDNA3 SKUs on the market).
