An etiquette question for the community: if you attend a game night at your friendly local game store, how much do you buy from the store?

Obviously, game store is not (just) hosting board games to give people a place to hang out and have fun. They are doing it to attract new customers and get people to buy games. If many people come but no one spends, the store might decide that they need to cancel the event and schedule more CCGs and minis. So how often do you buy a game at your local store to express your gratitude for the owners letting you use their space?

I haven’t played at my FLGS yet but I occasionally buy stuff. Since the prices tend to be significantly higher I either wait for sales or buy smaller games where the price difference is easier to swallow. I don’t have it in me to pay MSRP or higher for expensive games. I think under $30 is my psychological threshold where I am willing to pay extra for the instant gratification.

I imagine I would be more willing to spend more if I was more involved with the community around the store.

I try to make a point to get something while I’m there, whatever I’m playing. I mostly go to Warhammer nights but there’s a DnD/board game pub nearby too, either way I always get some paint or snacks or something. I usually encourage other players to support the store too if they can, or offer to spot them. It’s just good behavior.

I want these places to stay open and as a (very tiny) small business myself, I know they appreciate it. Definitely beats ordering on Amazon.
