The announcement to prevent people outside the EU from buying housing in Spain unless they reside in the country follows his proposal last week to put a tax of up to 100% on such property deals.
This is sensationalist bullshit. It’s not targeting brits, but people from outside the EU. And given the housing crisis in the country, it’s a good thing.
If brits are pissed that they can’t go enjoy their retirement in spain, they can go fuck themselves vigorously. After all, they decided unilaterally to leave the EU.
This. All of this.
The housing crisis should make owning second homes punitive.
Maybe there should be an incentive to build more houses instead of this bullshit? Houses are somewhat affordable if you want to live in dying countryside, but brits and a whole lot of people won’t be able to, lol.
I agree. More houses should be built, but not so they can be purchased by trust funds so they can make money over a basic good.
And yes, the article is bullshit because it makes it look as if the law targets brits when it’s not made for them. If they were in the EU, this law would mean nothing to them, but hey, nobody told them to leave and yet they did so…
I’m all for this, obviously the housing crisis is caused by a bunch of factors but really no one should own a second home until everyone has a first. Providing more free/affordable (and actually high quality) housing is also important, but preventing people who don’t actually live somewhere from buying a house that will sit empty or be rented out to tourists for a majority of the year is a good thing and seems like a great starting point to try and tackle the airbnb problem specifically.
Good!
