Was it found between the ashes or was it made in Pompeii and left the city before the event?
Found in the ruins. The ash actually buried and preserved a great deal of Pompeii, which is why it was such a monumental archeological find. Even buildings and paintings on walls, and graffiti, have survived!
I just read about the House of The Faun, where it was unearthed. Very interesting.
Yeah, the ash preservation. I remember seeing documentaries as a kid and being haunted by it.
