    That is exciting. It looks like perhaphs a photosynthesis algae mat residue, but if confirmed I think the largest point is Mars had conditions for life longer than previously thought.

    IMO as the atmosphere thinned, and along with our own history, larger life is deeper down and older rocks. As time and atmosphere decreased, so did the life in response to dwindling availability of resources. I also think Olympus Mons was the molten core being ejected by a large asteroid strike which killed the dynamo and the started the atmospheric death, but that’s not concensus.
