It’s not even a territory where anybody lives

Imagine letting 24 people die over a piece of land that nobody lives in.

Crusaders and Muslim soldiers getting ready to each lose another 200,000 men trying to attack/hold Jerusalem for the 2,736 time this month because their magical sky person has decreed it.

Yes, the Bible states that Israel was given by God to Abraham, Jacob, and Isaac as a promised land in return for their worship. From this, Jesus is a descendant of those men and his birth and most pivotal life moments center roughly on the city. His cruxafiction happened just outside the city, and his church the Holy Sepulchre, built on his site of cruxafiction is so Holy to even muslims that all of the Islamic generals/leaders during all of the Crusade refused to enter it or damage it in any way.

Jerusalem is incredibly important to the Christian and Jewish faiths.

Meanwhile, for the Islamic faith, Jerusalem is the thrid holiest city behind Mecca and Medina. In the Quran Mohammad is transported and flown to the city on his Night Journey to Al-Asqa and Heaven.

Jerusalem is incredibly important to the Islamic faith.

            Cue the 8 billion Crusades

The Papacy has long declared the importance of Jerusalem, and Popes were the ones to instigate many of the Crusades. They do this because of how central the city is to the religion

On the other side, because of how vital it is to Islam, a large amount of Caliphs and generals throughout the centuries centered on the city for its religious importance and to solidify regional power.

Both sides viewed controlling the city as the highest holy matter.
