No need to mute. They’ll just ignore it like they always ignore the homeless.
Hey, stepping over a person sleeping on the sidewalk while keeping your phone conversation going and not spilling your latte is an impressive feat!
But what can I do to solve all their problems? It’s his own personal problem as well as a systemic issue. That person laying on the sidewalk needs unconditional love & a million dollars just as much as the rest of us do, and we’re all spinning our wheels every day in pursuit of it. I can hardly find mine for my own self, so how am I supposed to find some for that sidewalk sleeping guy too?
But what can I do to solve all their problems?
More than literally nothing, and no one in their right mind thinks its reasonable to try and solve all of anyone’s problems.
One of my pet peeves is those people standing on street corners with a cardboard sign, pulling in like $1,000 a day, when I earn less than that working 10x as hard at a real job.
You know thats not a thing, right?
You ever been homeless?
I have.
What you are describing does not happen.
You know who the vast majority of homeless people are?
People like you, who then lost that job.
Women who got domestically abused and just had nowhere to go.
People who work that shitty job, but live in their car, because they can’t afford rent anywhere.
People who ended up evicted, with serious medical conditions, because they can’t afford their meds or hospital/doctors bills.
You know how I know that?
Well, I’ve also worked as a data analyst/software dev for a major non profit group that ran shelters, employment training/matching programs, gave people emergency rent assistance.
This line you just said is total horseshit, and I am telling you that both from my own lived anecdotal experience, and also from a data analysis perspective.
That line is about as true as the idea that ‘anyone can be a millionaire if they just hustle hard enough.’
Your ‘pet peeve’ is a bullshit propoganda line, engineered to make people like you irrationally hate people who ‘lost at capitalism’ even harder than you currently are.
I’m literally homeless right now! I’ve been living in a van for 5 solid years. But no matter how bad things get, my dignity & self-respect & shame will NEVER allow me to stoop to panhandling. Standing on a corner with a cardboard sign would be utterly demoralizing, degrading, not to mention dangerous for a cute single vulnerable girl. Anyway panhandling is illegal in my state. Whenever one of those people pop up, the police swoop in damn quick. We simply don’t see panhandlers anymore. There are resources available for the down-and-out. Sure, maybe not a cool easy $1k a day, but resources are available. I’ve used 'em all. With dignity slightly dented but ultimately intact.
I’m literally homeless right now!

… then why is your pet peeve a thing you know doesn’t happen?
Oh, right, its because you view panhandling as just fundentally more immoral / less dignified than going to a food bank or whatever.
Don’t really see why, people tip people everyday, every damn grocery store asks you to round up to donate to a charity that mostly exists for tax write off purposes and has a terrible ratio of donations spent on admin overhead, e-begging / donation seeking is a whole entire phenomenon.
But you apparently have either such strong personal views, or such a huge ego that needs to be better than others like you, that you decide to be bothered by a theoretical red herring that you actually know is bullshit.
Sure dude, ok then.
Pipe saw.
I don’t think that’s something homeless people keep handy.
It’s certainly giving me ideas
This gets reposted alot. If you wanna help the community, get some 2x4 and just zip tie the seat higher. No destruction and nobody goes to jail.
I love that this thread functions as a giant liberal self report zone, the guilt is palpable!
Yeah, fuck all the people that need to use public transit!
You’re right, I use public transit and if someone were to be sleeping on the bench while I was waiting for the bus it would just ruin my entire life forever in every possible way, unless I just got the fuck over it and went on with my day or something, but I don’t think that’s an option.
But the bus only comes every four hours, how do we expend resources to make my life easier while waiting for the bus if we dont spend them punishing people more desperate than me!?
You just fucking hate working people, fucking commie.
But if every day & all night long, people are sleeping on that bench so it can never be used for its intended purpose of paying customers waiting-for-bus, that’s where the problem lies.
Sleeping on benches is apparently such a huge problem that many public places have no seating options available anywhere anymore. I recall traveling daily through the DC Metro, brutalist concrete architecture everywhere, on my feet all day, and it was even illegal to sit on the ground to rest my throbbing legs for 30 seconds. I was even sitting on a BALL that I had, and Metro employee comes up to me and tells me “NO SITTING ALLOWED. KEEP MOVING.” 🤬
I fucking despise [insert whatever nouns to suit the topic].
So, the authorities not allowing anyone at all to sit or rest and removing all of the public seating is to be blamed on unhoused people? The people actively causing you to not be allowed to sit and rest, for even a moment, are the unhoused, they’re the ones who took that from you?
No, my second paragraph was simply expressing anger at the fact there’s nowhere to sit anymore. Blaming it on authorities for removing all seats, and even the right to sit.
Thanks for the clarification, I apologize for being crass.
tell me, do you house any homeless people?
Fuck all the way off. Way to move the goalpost from letting people use benches to sleep to demanding people give up their homes for others. You’re the exact kind of piece of shit I had clocked you for, thanks for proving my point.
Have you ever volunteered for a food bank or done any mental health outreach for homeless people?
I have invited homeless on my street to use my home to bathe when needed, I have served them food both in food pantries and in the street, and I have treated them as citizens of my neighborhood who became interesting friends.
So, fuck yourself all the way off, troll
you’re the troll and your first comment in this thread isn’t excused even if you aren’t lying now.
No you fucking have not.
Liar.
Beep.
Oh my god please please go back to fucking yourself, the world isnt ready for how much you fuck things.
such subtlety and depth of ethical reasoning.
The moderate whites speak!
The basement dwellers speak!
Okay buddy NIMBY NSFW account
Do you think that park bench access is “the thing” homeless people need?
Denying it so somebody can sit for five minutes while they wait for the bus sure isn’t.
If lack of bench space is a problem due to homeless people sleeping on it, the solution isn’t making them unable to sleep on benches. It’s getting them in homes. And if that solution isn’t available, saying fuck them in favor of people having bench-sitting access is not a great argument.
To be clear, anyone who complains about lack of space to sit at a bus stop due to a homeless person sleeping on it, and instead of feeling pity for the homeless person and fighting for the homeless, chooses to be mad at the homeless person and fight against the homeless (by supporting those anti-sleeping bench measures), that person is an inhuman piece of shit.
Please go back to masturbating. You’re doing good work over there; don’t fuck it up.
You don’t masturbate?
Sure do! But!
We shoukd each do what we can to make the world the best we can. For you, that means keeping your mouth closed and your hands in your pants, so you aren’t making words at the rest of us.
I know it’s a big ask, but you got this.
And there it is
