How the fuck does reality come up with shit like “electronic-tribal musician who uses KKK aesthetics to promote African nationalism is cancelled after people find out he’s actually a white guy from France”, I swear to God if you write this shit out in a book you’d get called out for being unrealistically on the nose with this shit
OF COURSE HE’S FRENCH
I mean it’s crackers all around
Average French musician (maybe not really but it’s weird how many orientalist and other racially fetishistic music projects I’ve seen from French musicians)
Are you trying to be as cringe as that dude?
My brain just quit working for a minute reading that and then I saw “from France” and it all became internally consistent.
How does somebody like this just… exist… without getting their ass kicked so hard they find a new thing to do.
be the change you want to see in the world!
Nahh, it’s too incomprehensible for me to actively want anything in particular to happen to him I’m just even more confused than usual.

There has to be a reasonable scientific explanation.
Working theory is that he generates a deep pity in the heart of anybody who would confront him.
maybe everyone figures someone else is bound to do it soon enough so no need to get their hands dirty?
I think i’m gonna go back to bed
Wake up tomorrow, have a good do-over
Wake me up when September ends.

oh, honey, we are well into november
edited to not seem infantalizing/misogynistic. supposed to be a bad reference to that one show and i haven’t had caffiene yet
Next September. I slept

It’s Eternal September I’m afraid. Cost of being woke.
Wouldn’t want to miss the October Revolution, eh?
so, a white french guy dresses as a klan member and preaches that black people should go back to their country of origin while making dogshit music? am i reading this correctly?

Theres a fellow named Andrew Claristidge, a French electronic music producer, who’s “associated” with the “angolan” musician. So folks are mostly drawing a line from the that to the dude in the hood

17·3 days agoYeah I did read this https://consequence.net/2025/11/african-imperial-wizard-white-guy-xiu-xiu/ on it.
Despite claiming to come from Angola, those known to be involved with African Imperial Wizard all hail from Europe. The project is signed to Tesco Records, a German record label, and one of the few names associated with the act is Andrew Claristidge, a French electronic music producer. It’s currently unclear if Claristidge is the “middle-aged white guy” or merely a close collaborator.

I regret learning about any of this
I swear to God if you write this shit out in a book you’d get called out for being unrealistically on the nose with this shit
Considering the type of shit you see from fascists that is always more horrific and monstrous than anything an artist could ever conjure, I never want to hear smarmy media critics talk about “unrealistic” or “over-the-top” villains ever again
The evil ass villains all having to have tragic backstories or humanizing moments is more unrealistic
These records are actually just made with Ableton samples
Abletonism
Do they mean the preset samples that come with the program?
I think? I must say I’m as confused as you are
this mf using stock samples ??

Lupe literally used the stock sample on Fruity Loops to create his greatest song ever lol
Which song?
Murals. It’s great, check it out
Oh I’m a Lupe fan, I just didn’t know that was a stock FL sample

How is this not a bit?
Somehow most and least surprising news I’ve read in a long while.

I don’t have words to describe how this made me feel and no emoji can encompass it
?Yeah that’ll do it actually
Yeah this one encompass it pretty well
Wtf??
I love xiuxiu though
It’s not xiuxiu that is in the robe
fr my heart skipped when i saw Xiu Xiu’s instagram, vaguely recalling that I thought they were a good person with good politics. What a relief to see them calling out this behaviour/person

8 months ago, somebody theorized he wasn’t Angolan, quite reasonably. https://archive.ph/MmLFb
I’m often discouraged from writing my leftist takes on old Cold War tropes by all the insanity you can’t write, some of it even Red Scare resulting, in the news every day.
But then I feel like some of my on the nose characters and scenes are actually fine, because lampshading what the Red Scare really was and is, is like, the whole point. Stuff like this makes a church authority Cold Warrior called “Bishop McCarthy” seem a little less “too on the nose”.
Call him Father McCarthy, a southern evangelical radio show host shock jockey turned politician.
That doesn’t really work in the setting I’ve placed him in, but I’ll definitely have to use that somewhere. Cold War preacher, made a local name for himself in the height of the Cold War, got a radio show in the 80s, then when the USSR fell, he just kept riding high on the lingering fear of communism, and he’s actually better than most of the far right media personalities turned politicians he coalitions with because at least he’s mad at actual AES states and former Warsaw Pact nations, not just calling everything he hates communism, and at least he says what no other far rightist will about the Republicans’ 180 on Russia post Soviet dissolution. Sure, he screams that they’re still commies, which objectively isn’t true, but he’s still not as bad as his political allies. That’s a good write up for a character, for the post war/modern setting stuff I like to do, and an older version of him where he started as a radio version of a televangelist, before television was all that nationwide or used for such things, and he’s a Cold War Christianity “Religious Right” archetype that actually is the worst and most insane Cold Warrior in the state legislature, would work for my active Cold War settings… the Soviet spies that are the good guys in all of my stuff, have to continually dodge clueless municipal law enforcement just trying to ticket anyone out of town for traffic infractions and noise complaints, federal counterintelligence on wild hunches or chasing someone else entirely… and the crazy state Cold Warrior who doesn’t even realise how right he actually is about the Soviet agents he sees behind every blade of grass, Father McCarthy and his church turned radio show, and a bunch of civilians who listen to him, who have no idea what they’re doing but fancy themselves Crusaders of a sort engaged in a Great Holy War.
